1. Information we collect
Account information
You may use Millstone without creating an account. In that case, your Rule of Life, check-ins, and related preferences stay on your device and do not sync across phones or tablets.
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- Password (stored by our authentication provider in hashed form; we cannot read your password)
- Display name (optional / as provided)
Account authentication and cloud sync are provided by Supabase. Creating an account lets you upload on-device data to your cloud account for sync.
Rule of Life and check-ins
If you use Rule of Life features, we store on our servers:
- Practice titles, notes, schedule (weekdays / preferred times)
- Daily check-in status (for example Kept / In part / Not kept) and related timestamps
Information stored only on your device
The App also stores some data locally on your device (not uploaded to our servers), including:
- Prayer intentions and custom prayers you create
- Saved Rule templates and challenge/season date ranges you set
- Nightly Examen completion markers
- Home-screen guidance preferences (for example dismissing “Start here”)
- Widget snapshot data shared with the Millstone widget via an App Group
- The confession preparation vault: notes you write for examination of conscience are encrypted on-device with a password you choose and are not uploaded to our servers
Purchases
Optional tips / donations are processed by Apple through In-App Purchase. We do not receive your full payment card details. Apple’s privacy policy applies to payment processing.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, the App schedules local notifications on your device (practice times, liturgical reminders, Examen nudge). Notification permission is optional. These reminders are generated on-device and do not require sending your prayer content to a push server operated by us.
Diagnostics
We do not currently integrate third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. Apple and your device may collect standard crash or performance data according to your system settings and Apple’s policies.
2. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Create and secure your account
- Sync your Rule of Life and check-ins across devices signed into the same account
- Provide liturgical day information, prayers, templates, and related features
- Send password-reset emails when you request them
- Process optional tips through Apple
- Improve reliability and fix bugs
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not use your confession vault contents for advertising, profiling, or any cloud feature—those notes stay on your device unless you choose to share them yourself outside the App.
3. Sharing of information
We share information only as needed to operate the App:
| Recipient | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Account authentication and storage of Rule of Life practices / check-ins / profile |
| Apple | App distribution, In-App Purchases, and platform services |
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of the App.
External links (for example USCCB Mass readings or other Catholic resources) open third-party sites. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
4. Data retention
- Account and cloud Rule of Life data are retained while your account remains active.
- If you delete your account in the App, we delete your authentication account and associated server-side practices, check-ins, and profile data (subject to normal backup cycles).
- Local-only data is removed from that device when you delete your account in the App, or when you delete the App (except data Apple retains under its own policies).
- Encrypted confession notes remain on the device until you reset/clear the vault or remove the App.
5. Your choices
- Access / update: You can update your display name in Account settings.
- Sign out: Available in Account settings.
- Delete account: Available in Account settings. This permanently deletes your Millstone account and server-side Rule of Life data.
- Password reset: Available from the sign-in screen.
- Notifications: You can enable or disable reminders in the App and in iOS Settings.
- Confession vault: Protected by a password you set; you can clear or reset the vault in the App.
To request help with deletion or privacy questions, contact the developer using the support email listed above or in App Store Connect.
6. Children’s privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard providers and transport encryption (HTTPS) for account and cloud sync. Confession preparation notes are encrypted on-device. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. International users
If you use the App outside the country where our infrastructure is hosted, your information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
